October 1, 2009 - Colorado Springs

The United States Air Force Academy...

Waking in the classy suite provided by Air Force Inns, it was time to see the rest of this great military education center. We picked up Mary Frances's brother Elmer and sister-in-law Joanne who reside within the base/university property, and headed first for the icon of the Academy, its famous chapel:

Garden of the Gods...

From the Air Force Academy we took I-25 south to another of Colorado Springs' attractions, the Garden of the Gods. After the incredible week we had spent in Utah, it would be pretty difficult to impress my bride and me with some red rocks, but this small display of them did have a twist: green trees in between, making the garden analogy more poignant.

After a morning at the Air Force Academy and an afternoon at the Garden of the Gods, it was our pleasure to visit Joanne's daughter Roberta Watson, her husband Jim and children Jacob and Jaci. Roberta provided a stir-fry meal that was easily the best we've ever enjoyed.

It was a pleasure to spend a family day, made more so by the Watson's hospitality.

Tomorrow: Denver.
