A good day in Black Hawk
We didn't know what to expect when we arrived at the Ameristar Hotel and Casino, but to say we've been impressed would be an understatement. The rooms are superb, the restaurants are upscale, the casino is smoke-free and while small by the standards of folks who frequent Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun, there are sufficient slots and table games to bankrupt the gaming connoisseur. And if that's not enough, there are a dozen other casinos across the street.

A lazy day in the land of casinos
From our room on the 23rd floor, this is the view of the town of Black Hawk, nestled between the mountains of the Front Range:

Say jeez, part two
We'd like to post more pictures today, especially of the trip to Nederland to meet our friends Palmer and Linda Beam for dinner at the only Nepalese restaurant we've ever enjoyed, and we sure did enjoy it, both the restaurant and a very pleasant evening with the Beams. Alas, our old camera's batteries were dead, no doubt from all the videos we took yesterday on the road from Buena Vista to Vail. However, we were lucky enough to get this photo off Mary F.'s cell phone--not clear but we hope our enjoyment shows through:
Yours truly, Mary Frances, Palmer Beam, Linda Beam--a wonderful evening.
OK, yesterday I promised to tell how we fared at gaming. Let's just say one of our gifts from the casino was a W-2 form, and we won't have to hit the ATM for gas on the way home.
Tomorrow, time to meet Arthur in Denver.
