Mile High City

All the places we didn't go today

Well, we had big plans to visit all the attractions here we hadn't seen before, but what we really needed was some rest, which with the time change back to standard, we got big time. After MF getting her hair done and later driving to a Jo-Anne's Fabrics for yarn for a hat she almost has finished already, Arthur arrived fresh from his Sunday morning hike. We decided to go to the Wild Animal Sanctuary:

After a long drive into the flatlands, we got there at 3:45 PM. The sign said, "Open 9 AM to 4 PM." That's what we get for such a late start. So we turned the old bus around and headed for an early Sunday dinner. Not that there weren't lots of places to visit in Denver. For example, what better place during the football season than Invesco Field, home of the Broncos:

Unfortunately, we happened to be in Denver on the Bronco's bye-week, so the place was anything but hopping. Another thought we had was the Denver Botanic Gardens:

But since the sun was beginning to set, so that didn't seem like a good idea, and besides, we were getting hungry. Which is probably why we didn't choose to go the the Denver Downtown Aquarium:

The Downtown Denver Aquarium

Little did we realize that the Downtown Denver Aquarium is a restaurant. From About.com: The aquarium began life as Ocean Journey in 1999 as a multimillion dollar investment by the city of Denver. After years of leaking money, the city sold the aquarium to Landry's Restaurants in 2003. The redesigned aquarium reopened in 2005 as the Downtown Aquarium. The Downtown Aquarium features exhibits on freshwater fish native to Colorado, as well as oceanic sea life from around the globe. More than 500 species of animals can be found at the aquarium, and the facility houses more than one million gallons of water.

The place we did go today

The place we did go today was the Elephant Bar Restaurant. It was worth every moment, with a 24-page menu, good drinks, reasonable prices and attentive service:

Our favorite Denver dining spot.

OK, so we took a day off. But we enjoyed ourselves, enjoyed our son's company, and hey, this is a vacation.

Tomorrow: from here to Ord.
